Asaia Palacios Founder, STREAM This
Asaia is a curious soul, always up for the next adventure. Born in Mexico City and raised in Texas, Asaia ventured to the Czech Republic after graduating from university to teach English and Spanish overseas. Following her passionate inclination to support the growing social entrepreneurship ecosystem in Mexico, she pursued consulting in the East Coast for sustainable social impact organizations. A Women Who Code NYC meetup ultimately inspired and solidified her interest to get into tech, specifically, for software engineering. While tackling a computer science foundation in San Francisco, she jumped on board to research the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and the Oakland workforce for Kapor Center as a Tech Fellow. Asaia's focus in AI lies in bringing to light the positive social impact innovations - like an AI-powered hearing aid device to help filter background noise so you can hear and converse with the person next to you. Asaia is hard-of-hearing/deaf in one ear and would benefit from a device like this. Currently an Entrepreneurship Fund Grantee thanks to the support from Immigrants Rising, a Bay Area organization that empowers undocumented young people to achieve educational and career goals, Asaia is leading the creation of STREAM This - video content series inspiring the next generation of tinkerers and makers to explore AI early on via a get-started DIY mindset. As a non-DACA undocumented individual, she desires to lend a voice to this community in tech and bring to light the need for a pathway to citizenship. Passage of the DREAM Act or legislation like this will allow Asaia to dream even bigger - become an AI engineer for a leading AI research organization/tech company and, ultimately, lead a sustainable and fulfilling life.
