Latinas in Tech
It all started with a simple idea in 2014. At that time, both Rocio and Gretel were working at tech companies in the Bay Area as part of their Latin America teams. They had the idea to bring together the other women who worked on their teams, in addition to some other ladies from Latin America they had met over the years, so everyone could get to know each other. So about 10 Latinas gathered together at a bar in Redwood City, California, and they quickly realized they all had a lot in common with each other and a lot to share with one other.
They decided to continue hosting Meetups every couple of months at different trendy locations, and every time, the group of ladies kept getting bigger and better as more and more Latinas began hearing about the group. Soon enough, they became too big of a group to fit in a bar, so they switched the gatherings to the cool offices of the different technology companies where they work.
Today, the group is comprised of more than 1,000 women, representing more than 12 countries, working at more than 30 of the top technology companies in Silicon Valley.
